The Dark Moon

Popular culture refers to the dark moon as that time when the moon cannot be seen. This amounts to about three days per month. During those three days are when most people curb their spellwork, not understanding that those energies can be every bit as powerful as new or full moon energies....just in a different way. New moons relate to fresh starts, and full moons relate to fruition and successful completion. Dark moons however, relate to things unseen, things hidden, or simply things that we'd rather not face. Dark moons are also related to dissemination. Dark moons have unfortunately been associated with evil and malevolent forces. While these energies are present all the time, and maybe more so during dark moons, the Dark Moon is not something to be afraid of. Look at it as yet another opportunity to align your body, and your life, with the lunar energies that guide us. Fear of the unknown has kept many from realizing the beneficial properties of the dark moon. The dark moon became associated with unseemly things because before the advent of electricity, women's monthly cycles were attuned to the moon phases and the dark moon was usually when a woman's courses came. Instead of celebrating their bodies and understanding that all of our fluids are holy, we were taught to hide our blood and be embarrassed if anyone found out that it was "that time of the month". Though science tried to debunk the theory that the moon controlled women's cycles, nowadays, controlled lighting is used to control the lay cycles of hens in the poultry industry. Why? Because light controls their fertility cycles! If you associate the dark moon with evil, understand that notion comes from the same time period that told us that exposing oneself to the full moon light could cause madness.
It's hogwash and it's time we learned to reclaim this part of the Goddess heritage.
